Patna: Twenty four prisoners, not convicted for murder and rape, were released on Tuesday under the special remission scheme on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Inspector General (Prisons), Sandip Poundrik said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had on August 15, 2007 announced that aged prisoners would get remission. Mr. Kumar ordered the release of 24 convicts, including six women, lodged in Muzaffarpur, Buxar, Motihari, Ara and Sasaram jails under the special remission scheme.
