DEHRA DUN: Encouraged by the success of joint efforts by the Army and the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) in ushering in the much needed user-friendly technology for development of remote border villages of Kargil, Leh and Poonch, the Union Home Ministry has directed the paramilitary forces to coordinate with HESCO and replicate similar empowerment experiments in the bordering areas of the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir. Disclosing this here, Joint Secretary (Police) V.N. Gaur said that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Assam Rifles, Seema Suraksha Bal and Border Security Force had been asked to coordinate with HESCO and get training in the areas of upgraded water mills, food processing, post-harvest technologies and street and domestic lighting by solar diodes for their men as well as villagers along the international borders. Real empowerment“I am sure that the simple innovations and interventions of HESCO will lead to real-time empowerment of the poor in areas where Government efforts normally do not reach,” said Mr. Gaur addressing officers of various paramilitary forces at the HESCO Technology Gram near here. Thanking the Army and the Union Home Ministry for allowing dissemination of simple techniques to the people of extremely remote areas, HESCO patron Anil P. Joshi said that the initiative would not only help the targeted communities but also empower the jawans to replicate similar works when they return home after retirement.
