‘JD(S) rewarded for good work’

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: R. Srinivas, Minister for Municipal Administration, on Monday said that efficient administration coupled with providing basic infrastructure facilities to urban areas by H.D. Kumaraswamy-led Government were the main reasons for the people posing faith in Janata Dal (Secular) in urban local bodies elections.

Special package

The Minister told presspersons here that releasing of Rs. 1,023 crore as a special package for the development of urban areas and Fifth Pay Commission package for State government employees played an important role in securing support of the urban voters.

With the Congress losing ground in towns and cities, the Janata Dal (Secular) would launch a campaign to strengthen the party in urban belt of the State, he added.

The Janata Dal (S) would try to capture power in those urban bodies where no party or group could muster a simple majority, Mr. Srinivas said.

Confident of victory

Asked whether the Janata Dal (S) would opt for Assembly elections without transferring power to the BJP, the Minister gave a evasive reply saying anything could happen in politics. If the results of local body elections were any indication, his party was confident of winning support of people in the Legislative Assembly elections too, the Minister said.

“We are ready to face any eventuality,” he said. There are both sweet and sour experiences the JD(S) had with the BJP in the past 20 months of coalition rule, he said.

JD(S) district unit leader Byalahalli Govinde Gowda was present.
