A.S. GURUSWAMY MYSORE: A.S. Guruswamy (67), former MLA, died of cardiac arrest in Mysore on Tuesday morning. According to his family sources, Mr. Guruswamy complained of chest pain while having breakfast at his residence. He vomited and collapsed within minutes after that. His family members immediately rushed him to the nearby JSS Hospital, where the doctors made a vain bid to resuscitate him. Mr. Guruswamy is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. The former MLA’s eyes were donated to the eye bank, and his body was kept at his residence in Agrahara for the people to pay their last respect. VisitorsA large number of visitors rushed to Mr. Guruswamy’s residence after hearing the news of his death. Minister in-charge of Mysore district G.T. Deve Gowda and Minister for Kannada and Culture Mahadev Prasad were among those who visited Mr. Guruswamy’s residence. Mr. Guruswamy’s family members told The Hindu that the last rites would be performed at their native place Ayarahalli in Mysore taluk on Wednesday. They said Mr. Guruswamy, who was a patient of diabetes and blood pressure, did not complain of any symptoms of a heart attack before he had breakfast. Mr. Guruswamy had defeated former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in the 1999 Legislative Assembly elections.
