HYDERABAD: The GHMC’s recent demolition of houses under construction outside the Golconda fort has not been in spirit of the High Court order that directed corporation to properly maintain the fort and its premises, alleged Social Welfare Society President, Badari Bin Jafar Al-Kthery. Mr. Jafar who filed a PIL in the High Court seeking proper upkeep of the historical Golconda Fort, said that the High Court gave its order to properly maintain the fort, divert the drainage water and clear the garbage near the fort. “But the GHMC officials while neglecting other directions of the High Court for the proper upkeep of the Golconda Fort have chosen to demolish houses under construction ‘outside’ the Golconda Fort though they are in no way affecting the upkeep of the Fort ,” he said in a release. Mr. Jafar also clarified that neither he nor his organisation had urged for demolition of any constructions as they were only concerned with poor maintenance of Fort. The GHMC apparently was using the demolition drive to provoke the public and divert their attention from its own negligence. He said that as a result of GHMC’s action, social workers were getting projected as enemies of public and even facing ‘threat to their lives.’
