Selected private agency has to design, finance, build and maintain the bus shelters They should have provision for small kiosk, phone box, coffee machine or ATM HYDERABAD: In a span of two months time, the GHMC has floated another request for proposal to construct 600 international quality bus shelters in the twin cities under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode changing the rules from its earlier plan put in abeyance. This time the licence period will be for seven years or less as quoted by the bidder in the commercial offer. In July, GHMC has called for global tenders for constructing 500 bus shelters offering a fixed licence period of 15 years for enjoying advertisement rights doing away with the advertisement tax. The onus on fixing the reserve amount or five per cent of the gross annual revenue was also put on the bidder himself. But, all of it has been changed in the fresh tender notification. While the cost of each shelter continues to be Rs. 5 lakh successful bidders have to pay Rs. 5,000 per month for each shelter and 40 per cent of the income generated from letting out ATMs/coffee vending machines to the Corporation. The bidder also has to pay a security deposit of Rs. 35 lakh. The selected private agency has to design, finance, build and maintain the bus shelters at its own cost and later transfer them to GHMC on expiry of the licence period. The agency will be given advertisement rights during the licence period. Size of each of the shelters has to be from eight feet to 20 feet with 13 ft height from the ground. They should have a provision for a small kiosk for the exclusive use of the GHMC or the APSRTC, other than the phone box, coffee vending machine or an ATM. They will display information like bus numbers, timings and route maps. New sheltersSome of the areas where the new bus shelters are proposed to be set up are: Abids, Afzalgunj, A.G.
