“Government has promised to pay rebate arrears to Sarvodaya Sangh”

VELLORE: The Tamil Nadu Government has promised to pay before the end of this year the rebate arrears to the tune of Rs.28 crore due to the Tamil Nadu Sarvodaya Sangam for the sale of khadi products at subsidised rates during the Gandhi Jayanthi and Deepavali celebrations in the last five years, according to K. Balaguru, treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Sarvodaya Sangam, Tirupur, and former president of the North Arcot Sarvodaya Sangam.
Presiding over the 139th Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations and the inaugural function of the Deepavali sale of khadi and silk textile products at the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan here on Tuesday,
Mr. Balaguru said the government has assured the Tamil Nadu Sarvodaya Sangam that it would pay 50 to 70 per cent of the arrears as advance. Of the total arrears, Rs.60 lakh is due to the North Arcot Sarvodaya Sangam.
The Tamil Nadu Sarvodaya Sangam sold Khadi products worth Rs.42 crore during the Gandhi Jayanthi and Deepavali festival season last year, of which Rs.60 lakh was the contribution of the North Arcot Sarvodaya Sangam.
A sales target of Rs.50 crore has been fixed for the Tamil Nadu Sarvodaya Sangam and Rs.75 lakh for the North Arcot Sarvodaya Sangam during the Gandhi Jayanthi and Deepavali season this year.
