VISAKHAPATNAM: Karnataka, Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu were comfortably placed against their respective rivals at the end of the second day of the four-day round-robin matches in the South Zone under-22 cricket tournament for the C.K. Nayudu Trophy here on Tuesday. Karnataka, after posting 354 in its first innings, had Andhra struggling at 211 for seven with K.P. Appanna (three wickets) and Umesh Karvi (two) doing most of the damage. Earlier Karnataka’s Nikhil Kashyap, 47 overnight, went on to score 75 (4x4, 3x6), accounting for most of the 50 runs scored by the team on the second day. Hyderabad amassed 478 against Kerala, adding 146 to its overnight total of 332 for five, thanks to a century by overnight batsman Abib Ahamed (112, 11x4, 1x6). In reply, Kerala was 86 for six with Shoaib claiming three wickets for Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu is all set to take a big lead against Goa thanks to medium-pacer A. Koushik’s five-wicket haul and Abhinav Mukund, who is going strong after scoring a century (106, 15x4). He added 117 runs for the third-wicket with R. Srinivasan (53, 4x6) to help Tamil Nadu reach 217 for three at close. Earlier, Goa added 55 runs to its overnight total of 176 for six. While Koushik claimed three for 17 on Tuesday, off-spinner Ashwin finished with four wickets. The scores: Karnataka 354 in 103 overs (Manish Pandey 124, Nikhil Kashyap 75, Ganesh Satish 59, Amit Varma 26, P. Vijaya Kumar four for 66, T.
