KOLKATA: Uttar Pradesh and Bengal were to the fore in the Coal India East Zone inter-State badminton championship at the Khudiram Stadium here. U.P. won the men’s and girls’ under-19 team championship while Bengal took the women’s and boys’ under-19 honours. U.P., Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Uttaranchal and host Bengal, participated in the three-day tournament to identify the National inter-State qualifiers. The results: Rahamatulla Cup (men): U.P. bt Orissa 3-0 (A. Sharma bt R. Mahapatra 21-10, 21-11; R. Singh bt K.N. Raju 21-10, 21-9; R. Singh / N.P. Sinha bt C.R. Satpathy / R. Behura 21-18, 23-25, 21-17). Chaddha Cup (women): Bengal bt U.P. 2-0 (Amrita Mukherjee bt Neha Verma 21-9, 21-15; Amrita / Debasree Dey bt Saloni Jain / Sara Naqvi 21-4, 21-6) Narang Cup (boys): Bengal bt Uttaranchal 2-0 (S. Chatterjee bt B. Agarwal 21-14, 18-21, 21-12; S. Chatterjee / D. Saha bt P. Rohit / B. Agarwal 21-11, 21-19).
