Special tribute: Byagadehalli Basavaraj dressed as Mahatma Gandhi seen with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore on Tuesday. Bangalore: Being Gandhi worked for Byagadehalli Basavaraj. He got to meet Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and even shook hands with him. Mr. Basavaraj, a physical education instructor from Chikmagalur, had painted himself silver to look like a statue of Gandhiji. He was seen waiting anxiously near the dais at a function organised to celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi, in the hope of meeting the Chief Minister here on Tuesday. His long wait paid off when the Chief Minister noticed him and shook hands with him. Several programmes were organised on the occasion. Early in the day, a prayer was organised in front of the Gandhi statue on M.G. Road. At the Raj Bhavan, playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy and her children sang bhajans in front of a select audience. Later, Governor Rameshwar Thakur and his family members paid floral tributes to the Gandhi bust. The Karnataka State Tuberculosis Association launched their TB Seal campaign on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The Department of Kannada and Culture had organised a function to celebrate the first International Non-Violence Day. The United Nations General Assembly recently adopted it in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. A peace march was taken out from the Gandhi Bhavan on Seshadri Road by members of the Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi.
