New Delhi: A consumer court has directed the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to pay Rs.2.5 lakh as compensation to a consumer whose house here was damaged after a defective LPG cylinder burst into flames in 1995.
The Delhi State Consumer Commission president Justice J D Kapoor slammed the IOC for producing a cylinder with a faulty valve - that caused a gas leakage prior to the explosion - and directed the IOC to “pay Rs.2.5 lakhs as damages for the (damaged) household goods as well as for the mental agony and harassment”. The complainant, Om Prakash Seth, died waiting for justice as the case dragged on for almost 12 years.
