One killed, six injured in accidents

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: One person was killed and six injured in separate accidents in the Capital during the past 24 hours.

In a hit-and-run case, 56-year-old Somnath was crushed to death by a mini-truck at Shastri Park late on Monday night while returning home on his scooter. Passers-by rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. A resident of Shahdara, Somnath worked with a private company. In the second case, six persons travelling in a jeep sustained minor injuries when the vehicle collided with a Blueline bus at Mandawali late at night. The injured -- Yashpal, Subodh, Jaipal, Dharmender, Gajender and Dinesh -- were on their way to Kotdwar on a pilgrimage when their jeep collided with the bus while taking a turn near Panchmahal Apartments. No passengers were on board the bus when the accident took place. The bus, plying between Badarpur and Anand Vihar, has been impounded and driver Rakesh Kumar arrested on charges of negligent driving.
