BANGALORE: In the wake of the uncertainty over the transfer of power by the Janata Dal (S) to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday suggested that Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa resign from the Government to maintain the self-respect and dignity of the BJP. Speaking to presspersons after participating in a function to observe the 138th birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi at the Congress party office here, Mr. Siddaramaiah, a former Deputy Chief Minister, said the BJP should opt out of the Government and face elections to the Legislative Assembly. The JD(S) would not transfer power to the BJP, and Mr. Yediyurappa was only dreaming of becoming Chief Minister, he said. Earlier, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge; the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh; Mr. Siddaramaiah; R.V. Deshpande and Dinesh Gundurao, MLAs; Tejaswini Gowda, MP; and other Congress leaders and workers participated in a padayatra from the Congress Bhavan to the Mahatma Gandhi statue on M.G. Road. Mr. Kharge and other leaders paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation and recalled the principles advocated by Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle. Mr. Kharge said senior leaders of the party should inform the younger generation about the relevance of Gandhiji’s principles .
