On Tuesday, supporters of the MLA sought action against Shivanand Patil BIJAPUR: A day after the supporters of Tikota MLA M.B. Patil sought disciplinary action against Basavanabagewadi MLA Shivanand Patil for the latter’s alleged anti-party activities in the civic elections, Mr. Shivanand Patil’s followers have demanded that the same action be taken against the former. Addressing a press conference along with few party colleagues here on Wednesday, Jyothiram Pawar, president of Youth Congress district unit, urged the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to initiate disciplinary action against the Tikota MLA for, what he said, indulging in anti-party activities in the recent civic elections. Mr. Pawar said that he lost in Ward No 7 because the followers of Mr. M.B. Patil actively worked against him. They put up an independent Muslim candidate who polled a good number of votes that otherwise would have been cast in his favour. On the other hand, the MLA’s followers who belonged to the majority community openly worked for the victory of the BJP candidate. Other candidates had also become victims of anti-party activities. Notably, Mr. Patil, who carried out door-to-door campaign in some wards, did not do so in his ward, Mr. Pawar said. Stating that all these activities of the Tikota MLA and his followers had been reported to the KPCC, the Youth Congress leader said as the former was also a member of the All India Congress Committee, the central leadership would be apprised of the matter. Mr. Pawar said he invited Mr. Shivanand Patil to carry out door-to-door campaign in his ward because the latter had represented the same ward in the city municipal council before becoming MLA. There was nothing wrong in it, no one in the party need to be offended, he said. Mr. Pawar admitted that the party received drubbings in the elections in the wake of factionalism. He said though the party got only 12 seats in the 35-member civic body, it could come to power with the help of independents.
