Stepping in: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan inaugurating the 4th National Film Festival of Kerala on Wednesday at Kollam. KOLLAM: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan inaugurated the five-day fourth National Film Festival of Kerala at a function here on Wednesday. The festival is being organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. The inaugural function was held on a low key following the death of former editor of Deshabhimani weekly M.N. Vijayan. The festival had been scheduled to be inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby. But since Mr. Baby rushed to attend Mr. Vijayan’s funeral, Mr. Gurudasan who presided over the function inaugurated the festival. At the function, Agriculture Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran launched the festival bulletin by handing over a copy to District Panchayat president K. Devaki. HonouredThe winners of the national films awards, Urvasi, Rahul Dholakia, Raju Mathew, T.V. Chandran and Aryadan Shoukath, were honoured at the function by Mayor N. Padmalochanan. Film producer K. Raveendranathan Nair was also honoured for his contributions to the film industry. Editor of Kerala Shabdam B.A. Rajakrishnan and the former editor of Janayugam Thengamam Balakrishnan, spoke.
