PUDUCHERRY: Founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) S.Ramadoss would lead a protest rally near the Assembly complex here on Thursday demanding a separate quota for Muslims and Christians in education and employment. Leader of the PMK in Parliament M.Ramadass told reporters here that activists including party president G.K.Mani would take part in a procession from the statue of Singaravelu to the Assembly. According to the 2001 census, Muslims and Christians formed 13.2 per cent of the population in the Union Territory, he said, adding that most of them were socially, educationally and economically backward. 5 per cent for minoritiesHe urged the Congress Government to enact a law to provide 5 per cent reservation for the minorities from the 13 per cent quota earmarked for the backward classes and forward it to the Union Home Ministry for clearance. The Puducherry unit of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath in a release welcomed the PMK’s decision to hold the rally to highlight the demand for reservation for the minorities.
