Construction worker killed as pillar falls

CHENNAI: A construction worker engaged in the demolition of an old building in Tiruvanmiyur died when a concrete pillar fell on him on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as V.Devendran of Kaatu Mannargudi in Cuddalore district, who lived with his family in Tiruvanmiyur. He was working in a building on North Mada Street.

The body has been sent for post-mortem at Government Royapettah Hospital.

Assaulted

The police registered a case against four persons on charges of assaulting an employee at Stanley Medical College Hospital on Monday night.

Police said four persons came to the hospital claiming that one of them was injured in a road accident and urged the employee to provide treatment.

However, a wordy duel between the employee and the patient snowballed into an exchange of blows.
