dated October 4, 1957: Nehru leaves for Japan

Prime Minister Nehru left New Delhi on October 3 on a ten-day visit to Japan. Official circles say his trip is more in the nature of a goodwill mission than for the accomplishment of any definite political objective. Mr. Nehru was seen off at the Palam airport by the Vice-President, Dr. Radhakrishnan, Union Ministers, heads of diplomatic missions and Service Chiefs. Mr. Nehru’s visit, as he himself said last week, would not only enable him to fulfil his 50-year-old wish of seeing Japan but serve the cause of friendship between the two countries.
