Letters to the Editor
It is not proper to compare the calls for bandhs and strikes given by the BJP and other political parties. They are opposition parties who want to protest against what they think is failure of the ruling party. The DMK is in power in the Centre as well as in Tamil Nadu. Against whom did it seek to protest? If it does not agree with the UPA government’s stand on the Sethusamudram issue, it can withdraw support and then agitate. It cannot remain in power and behave like an opposition party.
R. Lakshminarayana Rao,
The reasoning that many bandhs and hartals have been called for and organised by various political parties even after the 1998 Supreme Court judgment holds no water with reference to the present case. The court cannot take suo motu cognisance of every infraction of the law. Someone should move the court.
N. Venkataraman,
