BANGALORE: Karnataka’s top under-13 players S. Siddarth and Shiv Nayak upset higher ranked players and entered the final qualifying round of the boys under-16 singles in the Union Bank all India junior ranking badminton championship at the KBA courts here on Wednesday. Siddarth beat Abhay Motwani of Madhya Pradesh in a close match 17-21, 21-15, 23-21 and will play Manikandan of Tamil Nadu for a place in the main draw. Shiv Nayak defeated Surya Prakash of Tamil Nadu 14-21, 21-15,21-18 and Rafeek Hussain of Andhra Pradesh 21-18, 21-15 and will play Gandhar Marathe of Mahashtra in the final round. The other Karnataka players poised to qualify are Sai Praneeth, Sudeep and Appanna in the under-16 category. In the under-19 singles qualifying round, Sonic Prabhu Desai stunned Dileep T. Jacob of Kerala in a thriller. Sonic won 21-5, 17-21, 24-22 after being down a match point at 14-20. Adarsh Kumar, Bhushan Anvekar, Anirudh Shenoy and Prateek Khurana of Karnataka are also in with a chance to qualify for the under-19 main draw. More than 250 matches were played during the day.
