Madurai: Sourashtra College registered two wins in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University championship basketball tournament here on Wednesday.

The results (League): Sourashtra 78 (Anand 28, Gajendran 18) bt MSS Wakfboard 76 (Kannan 23, Anand 22); PMT, Usilampatti 43 (Vijaya Kumar 20) bt Raju’s, Rajapalayam 35 (Krishna Kumar 10); Sourashtra 86 (Premkumar 14, Anand 14) bt Raju’s 56 (Udayakumar 15, Venkatesh 14); MSSWB 68 (Kannan 29, Selvin Michael Raj 12) bt PMT 66 (Nirmal Kumar 23, Vijaya Kumar 11).

Sethupathy wins

Sethupathy Government Arts College, Ramanathapuram beat Alagappa University College of Physical Education 42-26 to win the title in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate men’s Kabaddi tournament at Karaikudi on Wednesday.

Mepco bags title

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi won the title in the Anna University zone X inter-engineering college women’s volleyball tournament at Sawyerpuram near Tuticorin on Wednesday.

The results (Final): Mepco bt Govt. College of Engg. Tirunelveli 25-11, 25-16; Third place: Arulmigu Kalasalingam, Krishnankovil bt Kamaraj, Virudhunagar 13-25, 25-15, 25-21. Good knock byMukesh

An unbeaten 64 by T. Mukesh helped Karapettai Nadar Higher Secondary School defeat A.S.A. Government Boys HSS, Tiruchendur by 12 runs in the TDCA inter-school cricket tournament at Tuticorin on Wednesday.

The scores: Karapettai Nadar 159 for four in 25 overs (T. Mukesh 64 not out, Praburaj 39) bt ASA Govt. Boys 147 in 23 overs (Krishnamurthy 33, Praburaj three for 25, Senbagaraj three for 31); Anitha, Tiruchendur 104 for six in 20 overs bt Hindu, Aumugaveri 78 in 18 overs (Pravinraj three for 11, Saravanaraja three for 18).

Athletics meet

The Madurai unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will organise the district-level athletics and games meet for boys and girls (under-16) under SAI scheme at MGR Race Course stadium, Madurai from October 8 to 11.

Badminton (Oct. 8), athletics (Oct. 10), hockey (Oct 10 and 11). basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, swimming and fencing (Oct 11).
