Suresh, Radhika emerge fastest

Coimbatore: M. Suresh of Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science and P. Radhika of Nirmala College clinched the 100 metres gold for men and women in the 26th Bharathiar University inter-collegiate athletic meet at the varsity outdoor stadium here on Wednesday.

The results:

Winners only: Men: 100m: M. Suresh (Dr. NGP) 11.01s. 1500m: C. Sanoj (Dr. NGP) 4:23.3s. Half marathon: P. Bharathiraja (Cherran Arts) 1:12:43s. 20km walk: J. Suresh (SRKV) 2:11:43s. Shot put: S. Premkumaran (PSG CAS) 10.85m. Triple jump: N. Govarathanan (Dr. NGP Arts) 14.63m.

Women: 100m: P. Radhika (PSGR Krishnammal) 13.44s. 1500m: V. Rubadevi (Kongu Arts) 5:18.1s. Half marathon: K. Gandhimani (Kongu Arts) 1:45:19s.

5km walk: V.S. Nirmala (PKR Arts) 0:31:7s. Shot put: G. Nadhini (PSGR Krishnammal) 9.60m. Triple jump: G. Nadhini (PSGR Krishnammal) 10.91m. Javelin: A. Chitra (Tirupur Kumaran) 34.32m.

John, Kumaresh slam centuries

I. John Baptist (120) of Jolly Rovers and H.S. Kumaresh (116) of Indian Cricket Club came up with useful centuries in the Canara Bank-CDCA first division league for the Pricol Trophy at the SNR Sons and PSG Tech grounds on Tuesday.

The scores:

First division: R.K.S. Kalvi Nilayam ICC 242 for eight in 50 overs (A. Siddarth 46, Premkumar 56, S. Santhosh Kumar 53) bt ABT CC 115 in 37.3 overs.

Jolly Rovers CC 268 in 46.5 overs (M. Nagarajan 56, I. John Baptist 120, Goutham four for 36) bt Sri Ramakrishna Cricket Trust 219 in 49.1 overs (Seetharam four for 43).

Indian CC 200 for eight in 50 overs (H.S. Kumaresh 116, P. Rathinasamy four for 22) bt Tirupur CC 103 in 33 overs (D. Kannan four for 28).

Selection trials

The selection trials for the district boys and girls for the 16th mini inter district volleyball championship scheduled at Chennai will be held at the VOC Park Corporation Sports Complex courts here on October 5 at 2.30 p.m.

Players born on or after 1-1-1994 are eligible.
