Regal splendour: The jewel-studded throne at the Mysore Palace. MYSORE: The jewel-studded golden throne of the Mysore Palace is now open for public viewing, and will be on display until Dasara festivities draw to a close on October 21. Reckoned to be a spectacular work of art that adorns the Amba Vilas section of the main palace, the golden throne is kept under strict security in the strong room and is displayed only for a few days during the Dasara. The process of assembling the throne itself is an elaborate affair. It was conducted by the scion of the royal family Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar on September 28. It was on Tuesday that the palace authorities removed the curtains masking the throne to enable the public to get a glimpse of it. The throne comprises a main seat, steps leading to the main seat and a golden umbrella, all of which are attached through an interlocking mechanism and installed as one piece during the Navaratri festivities that will commence on October 12. A 24-verse Sanskrit “sloka” has been engraved on the rim of the umbrella addressed to Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, making references to his ancestors.
