The sector needs investments to bridge shortfall of hospital beds Quality of service can improve with accreditation across segments BANGALORE: With the healthcare services sector working towards acquiring industry status, the accent should be on making it central to infrastructure development and pumping in huge investments, said Vishal Bali, CEO, Wockhardt Hospitals Group. Speaking to presspersons ahead of the upcoming National Service Sector Conclave to be held in Hyderabad on October 9, on ‘Healthcare services: Next practices & mantras for survival’, he said the sector needs heavy investment to bridge gaps like the 800,000 beds shortfall. He said emphasis should be on improving quality of service by accreditation across segments. Mr. Bali, who is the conference chairman of the fifth edition of the conclave, said: “Today, the healthcare expenditure in the country is 5.2 per cent of India’s GDP and only 0.9 per cent of its gross expenditure, which is the lowest in the world. The industry today is the largest employer and demands an industry status . Mr. Bali also highlighted the role of accreditation in the industry.
