Relax rules to help small weavers: association

TIRUPUR: The Avanashi Textile Manufacturers’ Association has asked the Centre to amend the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme in order to help small weavers.

In a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Textile Minister, the association president, Muthusamy, said that the industry was facing crisis because of the strengthening of the rupee. He said that all the weavers and textile manufacturers had been suffering because of the stagnation of Rs. 50 crore worth textile goods. He said that the TUFS had been beneficial to large scale industries. He asked the Centre to relax some of the conditions put forth under the scheme.
