“VMC officials look at municipal schools merely as centres to put up polling or pulse polio booths. Top officials of the VMC are more fascinated with projects like BRTS rather than schools. If the VMC so desires, it can develop infrastructure in schools under the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) sub-mission of JNNURM. The Municipal Commissioner has no interest to allot more funds for development of municipal schools. He has never bothered to implement the recommendations and suggestions of the Education Committee of the VMC general body. The schools are in a pathetic condition only because of officials’ lackadaisical approach.”
