The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court posted the matter for October 10
CHENNAI: A private complaint has been filed against the former Member of Parliament of the BJP, Ram Vilas Vedanti, for his reported call to behead Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, before which the complaint was filed by A. Thangaiah of Chennai, posted the matter for October 10 to record the sworn statement of the complainant.
In his complaint, Mr. Thangaiah contended that the former MP was liable to be prosecuted for offences under Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 505 (statements causing public mischief) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Decrying Mr. Vedanti’s reported call to behead Mr. Karunanidhi, the complainant said the accused had created communal problems earlier and was prosecuted in the Babri Masjid demolition case as well.
