Hail Anand!

It is indeed a matter of pride that such an exemplary world champion (embodying all sporting ideals) as Viswanathan Anand hails from our country. This unassuming champion has been keeping the Indian flag flying high the world over and it is time due recognition is given to all his efforts.

Suresh Manohran,

Hyderabad

Kudos Anand

Hearty kudos to Viswanathan Anand for becoming the world chess champion for the second time. Indeed, he deserves a rousing reception when he returns home.

P.K. Varadarajan,

Chennai

Brand ambassador

Anand has made himself and every Indian proud. He is truly our brand ambassador. While the cricketers are heaped with all sorts of awards and cash incentives, Anand has been neglected by the sports authorities, corporate sponsors and others. But that does not take the shine away from his victory.

D.B.N. Murthy,

Bangalore

Seniors must for Tests

While it will be a wise move to elevate M.S. Dhoni as Test captain, it will be undesirable to induct youngsters at the cost of seniors in the Tests. Test matches call for experience and only the seniors can give that and in the process help the younger players.

V. Mahalingam,

Chennai

Unfortunate

It was heartening that BCCI gave the T20 world championship winning team a grand reception in Mumbai. The Indian hockey team had similarly done the country proud by winning the Asia Cup. It is a pity that every player in that team returned home unsung. Had it not been for hockey, India would not have had a ‘gold medal’ to talk of in the Olympics.

Sailen Basu,

New Delhi
