Students take pledge of non-violence

M. Balaganessin

PUDUKOTTAI: The valediction of the 10-day National Service Scheme camp held by the NSS unit of Raniyar Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Pudukottai village at Maalaiyeedu village near here on the Gandhi Jayanthi Day came in handy for the students to take a pledge on ‘International Day of Non-violence,’ amidst cheers.

Two students – P. Mahalakshmi and S. P. Amirthalakshmi, attired as the Father of the Nation and Jawaharlal Nehru respectively, administered the pledge.

In their feedback about the camp, they also shared their views, explaining the personality development they experienced while cleaning the temple and the streets. “We could understand in real sense the effectiveness of team-spirit,” they said.

Former school headmaster K. Chelliah, who delivered the valedictory address, said that the NSS camps were a key to moulding of good citizens. The camps promoted integrity and a sense of understanding – what cannot be taught inside the four walls of a class-room.

Headmaster R. Bose said that 25 students participated in the camp. Special lectures on topics including ‘self-employment,’ ‘literacy and vocational education’ formed part of the personality development programme.

NSS Programme Officer Sheelarani and NSS Liaison Officer P. Muthukumaran offered felicitations.
