Saluting the care-givers

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: A day to think about those who live through the excruciating pain of debilitating or life-threatening diseases. On World Palliative Care Day on October 6, one salutes those dedicated doctors, nurses and carers who do their best to alleviate the pain of their patients, both physically and emotionally, and help improve their quality of life.Palliative care is not just about giving care to the terminally ill; it is all about giving physical, emotional and spiritual well-being to a patient. Palliative care is also about giving financial and psychological support to the family to bear the pain of loss.

Pallium India is a charitable trust working in this area since 2003 and it links with various organisations to help them start palliative care services.

On October 6, Pallium India and the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (Kerala) are joining hands to organise a musical evening dedicated to palliative care. The programme will be directed by the well-known music composer M. Jayachandran. Several playback singers, including Sujatha Mohan and P. Venugopal will perform at the University Senate Hall from 6 p.m.
