Ratepayers resent civic body’s action

Tax hike termed abnormal

Kakinada: The Ratepayer’s association has expressed its strong resentment over the action of the Municipal corporation authorities in issuing special notices to residential houses in spite of the assurance given by the Chief Minister and also contrary to GO Ms No: 635.The association secretary P.S.R.K. Thimmajirao has appealed to the Municipal Commissioner on Thursday to withdraw those notices immediately as they are causing serious concern and anxiety to the house owners.

Special notices

Stating that the corporation is issuing special notices to owners of non-residential buildings with abnormal tax hike, he said these notices were devoid of any particulars, which will be helpful for filing revision petitions. The rates adopted, he said, were not furnished putting the taxpayers in a disadvantageous position. If they want to file revision petitions, he said, particulars of the tax fixation are necessary. ‘Under the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act (HMCA), it is mandatory on the part of the corporation to adopt a resolution with respect to enhancement of tax. Thereafter the Municipal Commissioner shall get sample survey made for at least 20 per cent of the houses in each zone for ascertaining the rental values, he remarked.
