Burning issue: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim taking part in a district-level review meeting on road repair at the Malappuram Collectorate on Thursday. MALAPPURAM: All major road repairs in the district will be completed in a month, Minister for Industries Elamaram Karim has said. He was speaking at a review meeting of road repairs held at Collectorate conference hall here on Thursday. For repairing 68 roads damaged in rain, Rs. 284 lakhs was sanctioned. Another review meeting will be held at the Collectorate here after two weeks, said the Minister. PWD executive engineer told the meeting that the Roads Division of PWD had already repaired six roads. Repair of other roads were in different stages. About 90 per cent of the work of Tirur-Kadalundi Road is over. The repairs of Koyilandi-Edavanna, Manjeri-Olipuzha, Cheppur-Panthallur, and Perakamanna-Kuzhiyamparamba roads have crossed 60 per cent. About 50 per cent of the Angadipuram-Valanchery Road repair work was over, said PWD officials. The National Highway executive engineer told the meeting that work was currently on at Kondotty, Thurakkal, Vattappara and Panambra on the National Highway. As much as Rs. 15.82 lakhs is being spent for repairs on NH-17 and Rs. 32 lakhs on NH-213. Mr. Karim instructed the PWD officials to give utmost care to Kuttippuram and Vattappara areas on NH-17. The District Panchayat has chalked out a plan to immediately repair 20 of the 62 roads under it. District Panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed said that it would require Rs. 2.5 crore to repair the roads. MLAs Manjalamkuzhi Ali, K. Mohammedunni Haji, Abdurahman Randathani, M. Ummer, Kutty Ahamed Kutty, District Collector Sumana N. Menon and Additional District Magistrate K.K. Saidalavi also took part in the review meeting.
