Minister reviews progress of works

CHENNAI: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister K.R. Periakaruppan on Thursday reviewed the progress of development works being carried out in major temples for improving facilities for devotees.

The Minister directed department officials to protect movable and immovable properties of the temples, fix fair rent for temple buildings let out and collect rent arrears.

He urged them to take steps for improving the income of temples.

Working of schools, colleges and other educational institutions, orphanages and archaka training schools run by temples was reviewed.

D. Rajendran, Secretary Tamil Development, Culture and Religious Endowment Department, T. Pitchandi, Special Commissioner and Commissioner, HR and CE, joint commissioners and temple trustees attended the meeting. — Special Correspondent
