Working plan for farmers’ welfare

Agriculture development of Alappuzha


Task force to be constituted

Rs.50 crore has been allocated for the programme


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State will submit a working plan for implementation of the report of the Swaminathan Foundation for comprehensive agriculture development of Alappuzha.

A conference, convened by Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran in New Delhi, decided to constitute a task force for preparation of the plan.

An official release said that the two schemes would be taken up for welfare of the farmers under the package.

A sum Rs.50 crore had been allocated for the first programme.

The second programme would cover schemes to be taken up over three years. These would be drawn up in consultation with experts, farmers’ organisations and people’s representatives.

The plan would be submitted to the Centre by the end of this month.

The Minister said that the government would consult M. S. Swaminathan for guidelines before the Cabinet approved the draft plan.
