CHENNAI: The city police on Wednesday unearthed foreign liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), valued at Rs.10 lakh. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
Speaking to reporters, Joint Commissioner of Police (North) M. Ravi said that following information that bottles of foreign liquor were illegally sold in many parts of the city, Commissioner G. Nanchil Kumaran had formed special teams.
Following a tip-off, the team raided a few godowns in Second Line Beach and seized foreign liquor bottles. They arrested Yousuf (40) of Korukkupet and Moideen (46) of Bharati Nagar.
Mr. Ravi said that the accused allegedly purchased foreign liquor from many passengers who arrived here from Sri Lanka at the Anna international airport.
After storing them in godowns, they had sold them to clients at hefty prices.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (PEW) Sekaran and his team of officers said that the seizure was a major catch.
