Bhanwar Meghvanshi gets Sarojini Naidu journalism award

For writing on the role played by women panchs and sarpanchs in education of girls in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: Social activist and journalist Bhanwar Meghvanshi has been named for this year’s Sarojini Naidu Award for Hindi journalism. Mr. Meghvanshi gets the award, instituted by the Hunger Project, for his writing on the positive role played by women panchs and sarpanchs in girl children’s education in Rajasthan.

Mr. Meghvanshi, associated with many social action and struggle groups in Rajasthan including the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) and Dalit, Adivasi Evam Dhumandu Adhikar Abhiyan, started his journalism career in 1996 after a brief stint with Dalit politics.

Mr. Meghvanshi is the editor and publisher of the journal ‘Diamond India’ which fights for the cause of the deprived and the oppressed. On several occasions, in the past, Mr. Meghvanshi has had to face threats from communal groups in Bhilwara , his home district, for his writings.He is the third person from Rajasthan to receive the prestigious Sarojini Naidu Award after its inception in the year 2001. He is also the recipient of the Bhouruka Charitable Trust award for rural journalism and the Citizen for Peace Award of The Indian Express.
