“Sethu project not economically viable”

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said here on Thursday that the Union government’s claim that the Sethusamudram project was economically viable was wrong.

Addressing a press conference, he said the benefits and costs of the canal project were based on “faulty calculations and cooked up data.” The project would cause an annual revenue loss of Rs. 1,000 crore to the government.

Dr. Swamy said the project could be achieved by digging the 15-km mainland stretch between Pamban and Dhanushkodi. This would leave the Ramar Sethu intact.
