UNICEF to fund online project

To take up Manjeera Sravanthi, the online grievance programme

Sangareddy: Manjeera Sravanthi, the online grievance programme initiated by Medak Collector B. Venkatesam has finally found an agency for implementation.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which gave the status of ‘Convergence district’ to Medak out of all the districts in the State, has shown keen interest in funding the project. UNICEF is currently financing ‘Sankalp’, a child development programme implemented by the ICDS and child reporter programme with the help of All India Radio in the district. It has come forward to take up the online grievance programme with the active participation of National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG).

Voice-based system

According to the Collector the programme would cut down the number of visitors to the Collector’s office to at least 90 per cent as the grievances could be addressed online from the mandal headquarters itself.

The action taken on the particular petition could be received at the same office without travelling to the district headquarters from far off places like Siddipet, Narayankhed or Kandi.

Speaking to The Hindu, the Collector said that the programme would be designed in such a way that the petitioner could record his voice and send it through the web for redressal. At present the Collector organises a ‘darbar’ every Monday for petitioners. Instead of the weekly ‘darbar’ the Collector will be able to receive a summation of all the grievances and action taken on daily basis.

Unicef team arriving

Representatives of the UNICEF and the NISG are arriving here on October 11 to discuss modalities of the project.

The district which had already prepared a blue print of the ‘Manjeera Sravanthi’ programme will put forward the same with improvements for UNICEF’s approval.

If implemented the Collector said that the system would help in putting pressure on the indifferent officers to clear pending files.
