ANANTAPUR: The Crime Control Squad police of Anantapur on Wednesday nabbed an eight-member gang that allegedly conspired to commit a robbery near a bank in the town. Eight hunting sickles, a toy pistol, a toy revolver and a cell phone were also seized from their possession. According to Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar the arrested persons were T. Obulapathi (25), P. Prasad (24), C. Ramesh (23), M. Ramanjaneyulu (30), B. Narasimhulu (37), K. Subba Rao (30), V. Hanumanthu (27) and T. Sivalingaiah (23). They were all from different mandals in the district. He explained that Obulapathi was an agent of Sriram Chits in Tadipatri branch and had worked with Anantapur branch too earlier. He was well acquainted with the cash transactions of the chit company here and when and how the cash collected would be deposited in a private bank. As he was in financial problems he had conspired to loot the cash collection of a day of chit company branch here, which would generally run into lakhs of rupees, and formed a gang with his friends and hatched a plan. Accordingly, he planned to loot huge cash from chit company employee who would come to deposit the amount in the private bank by spraying chilli powder into his eyes and threatening others with dummy weapons.
