Gujjars seek dismissal of Government

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Eminent Gujjar leaders spearheading the community’s movement for securing Scheduled Tribe status in Rajasthan have demanded dismissal of the State Government for its failure to protect their rights, life and property.

Addressing a press conference here, the Gujjar leaders -- who included patrons of Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Sangharsh Samiti, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Yashvir Singh, its president Sukhbir Singh Jonapuria and Delhi unit president Ratan Singh -- also accused the Rajasthan Government of launching a “State-sponsored terror campaign” against the community.

Mr. Bidhuri said the Rajasthan Government had lost its right to continue in office as it had failed to fulfil its commitments made to the Gujjars.

Stating that a large number of people had courted arrest in the State as part of the campaign launched on Tuesday, he said the State Government was terrorising the community .

Also, he claimed that several community leaders were languishing in jails without any proper facility.

‘Nationwide movement’

Alleging that the Constitutional machinery in the State had completely broken down, he said a nationwide movement would be launched beginning this Saturday. A demonstration would be held outside the BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road to highlight the atrocities committed against the community.
