Arrangements for pulse polio reviewed

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector has asked the Health Department officials and staff to take the pulse polio programme seriously and warned of stringent action against those neglecting the duties. Reviewing the arrangements made for the third round of sub-national polio immunisation programme to be held from October 7 at the district level task force meeting here on Thursday, he said, some of the Anganwadi workers failed to attend the duties during the pulse polio programme held in September. He warned to initiate stringent action against such people, in case of recurrence of the same this time. He wanted the volunteers to ensure cent percent coverage of all the eligible children, especially those living in predominant fishermen localities such as Parlaopet and Gadimoga areas, besides the children of Reliance, GSPC employees.

The Collector said that the volunteers would visit each and every households for three days from October 8 and ensure coverage of all children below five years of age.2110 polio booths in rural areas, 596 in urban areas, 544 in tribal areas were arranged besides 101 mobile polio booths all over the district. As many as 3,000 health staff, 9,000 woman health workers, Anganwadi workers, Self help group members are being deployed to immunise the children. The collector said that 4,250 teams were constituted to make household visits and advised the parents to get their children immunised. DMHO Vijaya Kumar, WHO supervising officer Subrahmanyam and District immunisation officer Phanindra attended.
