Plea to remove encroachments

Staff Reporter

THENI: Residents of Silamalai village observed dawn-to-dusk fast at their village here on Thursday demanding removal of encroachments at Soolapuram, one of the hamlets at the village immediately. Even as the panchayat passed a resolution in this connection, why the revenue officials were so reluctant to remove encroachments, they questioned.

They also pointed out that over 30 families have been encroaching ‘poromboke’ land for a long time. The panchayat administration had already forwarded a resolution, recommending removal of encroachments to the Government long back. No action had been initiated in this connection so far, they alleged.

Left opposition

The Communists Party of India (Marxists) had protested against the removal of encroachment at the hamlet and staged a demonstration and observed a fast at the village last week.
