BDA agrees to allot small dimension sites

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In a decision that could have far-reaching consequences, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Thursday informed the Karnataka High Court that it would allot small dimension sites (20 x 30 and 30 x 40) to all those who had made part payments for the sites.

Counsel for the BDA Sabrad said that the agency had adopted a resolution to this effect, which had been approved by the State Government. He submitted a copy of the resolution to the court.

Mr. Sabrad said all those who had made part payments for the allotment of 20 x 30 and 30 x 40 sites would benefit from the decision.

Justice N. Kumar, who was hearing petitions from several residents of Bangalore seeking a direction to the agency to allot them sites, pointed out to the BDA that many petitioners could not make the full payment as they were from economically backward sections of society.

He said the BDA could help such people realise their dreams of owning a site in Bangalore if it could modify its allotment rules to ensure that they could still repay the money they owed to the agency.

On its part, the BDA said that it had not allotted sites to the petitioners as they had failed to make full payment. The BDA further said that it had considered the claims of those people and decided to give them an opportunity to own a site.

It, however, said that the scheme would be applicable only to those who had made part payments after January 1, 2000.
