Sasikala moves High Court

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala has moved the Madras High Court seeking to quash the Enforcement Directorate’s eight-year-old adjudication proceedings under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.

Justice V. Dhanapalan, declining to stay the proceedings, adjourned the matter to October 6 for further hearing.

Assistant Solicitor-General of India P. Wilson informed the court that the cross-examination of witnesses was slated for Thursday and no interim order needed to be passed.

Ms. Sasikala said enormous delay in conducting the proceedings would entitle her demand for quashing the same. “The protracted adjudication proceedings are more than the punishment, which the petitioner could get from these proceedings.”
