KARUR: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko said on Thursday that he would quit politics if Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi proved that he (DMK leader) had ever lobbied for the Sethusamudram project with successive prime ministers.
The DMK regime that displayed contempt for the judiciary and made the public feel “insecure” during the October 1 incidents and the local bodies elections had lost credibility, he told reporters here.
Mr. Vaiko alleged that the DMK had forced an unnecessary bandh on the people. The observations of the Supreme Court judge on the actions of the State Government and the ruling party were “laudable” and reinforced the confidence of the people in the judiciary.
The blame for Union Minister T.R. Baalu’s outbursts against the judiciary lay with the Chief Minister, he said, recalling that it was in his presence that Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy criticised the judiciary in the aftermath of the local bodies elections.
Mr. Vaiko faulted Mr. Karunanidhi for his “uncalled for” remarks against Rama and the Ramayana.
