Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The Rural police arrested two persons on charge of forging Government documents, mainly driving licences, degree certificates and electoral identity cards. The suspects are Baby Lopez alias Jose, 33, of Kadhinamkulam and Shajahan, 28, of Vallakadavu.

Circle Inspector (Kazhakuttom) A. Pramod Kumar said that many fake documents and seals were seized from Baby’s house. They included international driving licences, birth certificates, seals of revenue officials, ration cards and vehicle registration certificate books. Four fake comprehensive vehicle insurance receipts too were seized. Mr. Pramod said the suspects had supplied several such receipts to some Regional Transport Office agents, who used them to cheat clients who gave them money for insurance remittances.

The CI said the suspects also supplied fake certificates to passport applicants. The police seized forged Emigration department seals and Emigration Clearance Not Required (ECNR) documents from Babu’s house. The suspects charged Rs. 3,000 for a fake degree certificate and Rs. 250 for a forged birth certificate. Forged international driving licences cost at least Rs. 2,000. Mr. Pramod said the transactions took place mostly at Gandhi Park.

He said Baby Lopez was a post graduate diploma holder in computer applications. They used scanned images of original documents to make fake ones. Modern scanning and colour printing equipment too were seized from the house. The duo was arrested on the basis of intelligence generated by SP, Rural, M. Sugathan.
