NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of the Delhi police claims to have smashed an international drug syndicate with the arrest of an Afghan and two Nigerian nationals at Govindpuri here on Wednesday. The police claim to have seized 3.67 kg of fine quality heroin from them. A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) L.N. Rao received a tip-off about an international cartel that was smuggling heroin originating from Afghanistan. The police mounted surveillance on the suspects and learnt that a consignment of heroin might change hands at Govindpuri on Wednesday evening. A trap was laid and three men were arrested with the stuff and Rs. 3 lakh in cash. They identified themselves as Rasheed Abisoye and Sundae Babatunde, both residents of Lagos, and Mehmood Shah, an Afghani national living in Lajpat Nagar here. The accused disclosed that the syndicate was being operated by Toufiq, a resident of Kabul.
