Nigerian football player arrested

NEW DELHI: A Nigerian football player has been arrested by the Delhi zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau for his alleged involvement with an international drug syndicate. The agency claims to have seized 600 grams of heroin during the operation.

Acting on a tip-off that a drug consignment concealed in a parcel was being sent out to the US through the Noida office of a courier company, the NCB sleuths intercepted the parcel on September 17 and found a wall-hanging picture frame wrapped inside.

Further investigation led to recovery of 300 gm of heroin from inside the frame. The NCB tried to trace the sender from the address given on the parcel, but it was found to be fictitious.

However, through surveillance the agency managed to zero in on the suspect, who turned out to be a Nigerian national.

On developing the inputs, the NCB sleuths found that the same person was about to send another parcel containing drugs. Subsequently a trap was laid and he was arrested with the parcel in Noida on Wednesday.

NCB Zonal Director Sandeep Mittal said: “We found 300 gm of heroin concealed in a lady’s purse that was being couriered to Holland.”

During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Otegbola Oluwaseun Sola (21), a resident of Lagos in Nigeria. He told the police that he was a soccer player .
