PANAJI: Faced with the growing concern over the recent trend of drowning on its beaches, Goa Tourism has geared itself to face the problem by putting into operation a full-fledged Beach Safety Management Scheme across the 106-km coastline by joining hands with various stakeholders. The scheme includes deployment of trained lifeguards and demarcating dangerous areas on the State’s most frequented beaches and a tie-up with beach resorts and hotels for aid and assistance to lifeguards in saving lives. The tourist coastal State is getting ready to face yet another tourist season. Sanjit Rodrigues, Managing Director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd.(GTDC), said on Friday that the GTDC has appointed 52 lifeguards after an analysis of beach stretches which are frequented by tourists as well as local people.
