VIZIANAGARAM: The town recorded 134.2 mm of rain during the past 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Friday. As a result of water logging in several low-lying areas, including Clock Tower, Rajiv Nagar Colony, Santosh Nagar and Jonna Guddi, people faced inconvenience. According to reports two houses in Jonna Guddi were partially damaged. The district received 1615.6 mm of rain with an average of 47.5 mm. The rainfall recorded in millimetres in other mandals was: Jami 126.2, Bhogapuram 98, Kothavalasa 96.8, Gantyada 94.2, L. Kota 84.8 and Garividi 83.2. Komarada recorded the lowest rainfall of 3.4 mm. Except a deficit of 44 per cent (100.3 mm received against a 179 mm normal) in July and 30.5 per cent (135.4 mm against 195 mm normal) in August, the South-West monsoon was vigorous between June and September thus registering an excess rainfall of 34.8 per cent. The average rainfall received was 932.9 mm against the normal of 692 mm. While Gummalakshmipuram mandal received the maximum rainfall of 1198.8 mm (824 mm normal) followed by L. Kota 1152.6 mm (668 mm), Vizianagaram 1102 mm (677 mm), Kothavalasa 1091.1mm (702 mm), Ramabhadrapuram 1080.6 mm (711 mm) and Parvathipuram 1079.3 mm (816 mm), Kurupam recorded the lowest rainfall of 667.7 mm against the normal of 684 mm (a deficit of 2.4 per cent). In the wake of continuous drizzle, the district administration, as a precautionary measure, opened control rooms in Vizianagaram (phone Nos: 1077, 236947 and 276888), Parvathipuram (221006), tehsildar office, Poosapatirega (258840) and tehsildar office, Bhogapuram (240340). Slums affectedKakinada: Kakinada and its surrounding areas have been experiencing rain for the past two days inundating low- lying areas. In Kakinada itself slum areas such as Parlaopet and Dummulapet were the worst affected. The district received a rainfall of 2,976 mm with an average fall of 49.6 mm during last 24 hours ending Friday morning. Gollaprolu mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 92.4 mm while the lowest being 15.2 mm in Mandapet mandal. The chief amounts of rainfall recorded were: Kakinada 50.4mm, Rajahmundry 43.4 mm, Rampachodavaram 51.6mm, Ramachandrapuram 56.2mm, Amalapuram 24.2mm, Samalkot 48.2mm, Peddapuram 44.4mm,Tuni 91.4mm and Mummidivaram 38.6 mm.
